Interview with Author of “The Open Road”

At breakfast this morning, we listened to a Fresh Air interview with Pico Iyer who has written a book on the Dalai Lama called, The Open Road: The Global Journey of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. Iyer’s attitude, his appreciation for a lifelong relationship with the man who Tibetans revere as the incarnation of Buddha, and his openness to talk about current relations between Tibet and China started my day on a meditative note. Iyer speaks personally and intelligently about the issues that are dominating the news. I sensed that both he and the Dalai Lama have a calm place inside them that allows them to have perspective and humor about issues that bring many of us to tears.
